For a good start to your journey, we recommend that passengers follow our concrete tips for how you can prepare ahead of time and what is important to keep in mind when you arrive at the airport.

Before you travel
You should be at the airport when check-in opens. Even if you have already checked in from home, any eventual baggage will need to be checked in at the airport.
Online check-in is one alternative to traditional check-in at the airport’s check-in counters. If it is possible to check in online, that is usually preferable. Some airlines charge extra if you check in at the airport.
When you check in online from home, you're already one step ahead in the process before you arrive at the airport. If you travel with only hand baggage, you can go straight to the security checkpoint when you get to the airport.
Please note that even if you check in online from home, you must check in your baggage at the airport.
Baggage
The maximum size for your hand baggage can vary depending on your airline. To find out what size your hand baggage can be, please contact your airline. Find contact information for all airlines here.
You can bring a limited amout of liquids in your hand baggage. Containers with liquids must be placed in a transparent one-litre resealable plastic bag. Each container may hold up to 100 millilitres. Examples of liquids are drinks, creams and gels.

The maximum weight for your checked baggage can vary depending on your airline. To find out what weight your checked baggage can be, please contact your airline. Find contact information for all airlines here.
Label your baggage with name and address. A tip is to also put a note containing the same information inside your bag. If your baggage should get lost or the bag tag should fall off, you can let the neccessary people know that your name and address can be found in the bag. This simplifies the identification process.
For a smooth flight. Pack your belongings as follows:
Sleeping bags and sleeping mats can be outside the backpack, but mugs, boots and poles must be packed in the backpack or taken as hand luggage. Cover the backpack with a sturdy bag or with the backpack's rain cover. Make sure that no straps or anything else that can get caught is hanging outside.

Travel documentst
You always need to verify your identity when flying. When flying domestic, a regular ID card or driver's licence is enough. When travelling abroad you need to be able to present a passport or a national ID card. Check what rules applies for a national ID card on your destination.
When you travel to countries within the the Schengen cooperation area, there will be no border check in conjunction with your arrival. However, some airlines still require a valid passport or national ID in conjunction with the flight. You will also need to verify your identity with a passport or national ID during your stay in the country you are visiting. We therefore recommend that passengers always bring a valid passport and ID.
What travel documents you need to bring depends upon your destination. Please note that some countries demand you hava a visa. Check what the rules are for your destination.

A Covid certificate is no longer neccessary when travelling within the EU.
When travelling to some countries outside of the EU, a Covid certificate is still neccessary. Before you travel to the airport, it is your duty as a passenger to find out what travel restrictions apply for your destination.

Practical airport information
Check in
- Enter your booking reference or scan your passport using the touch screen and follow the instructions.
- Your boarding card and bag tag(s) are printed when you’re finished.
- Attach the bag tag(s) to all your baggage for check-in. Fasten the tag around the handle of the bag with the bar code facing out. Don’t forget to save your baggage receipt.
If you’ve checked in, have your boarding card and are travelling only with hand baggage, go straight to the security checkpoint.
If can't check in online or using a machine at the airport, please go to a manned desk.
Baggage
When you get to the airport, go to one of the machines. There you can print your bag tag, which you put on your bag. Don't forget to save your baggage receipt. After printing your bag tag, go to bagdrop and leave your bag on the belt.

With Bag drop, you check in your baggage yourself quickly and easily. Check with your airline if they offers Bag drop and how far in advance you can leave your baggage.
- Place your bag on the conveyor belt (one bag at a time).
- Follow the instructions on the screen. Start by scanning your bag tag.
- Wait until you see that the bag is carried along on the conveyor belt.
- Once check-in is complete you get a confirmation on the screen.
Now, you're ready for the security checkpoint.
Special baggage is, for example, children’s strollers or pushchairs, golf bags, bicycles or skis, but can also be backpacks with loose straps and bags that are either too big or too small. If you have special baggage, you must first go to the airline's regular check-in counters. There you will receive a label and instructions on where to hand in your special baggage.
If you are flying with special baggage, you need to drop it off at a special drop-off point. These are located adjacent to the check-in area where the sign “Special baggage” is displayed.
Security control
- Have your boarding card ready.
- Remove outerwear, suit jackets, hearwear and metal accessories such as belts with large buckles or jewellery.
- Empty your pockets of, for instance, phone and coins.
- Remove your one litre bag of liquids and your electronics from your hand baggage.
- Follow the instructions you receive at the security checkpoint for a smooth passage.
Your hand baggage, will in a way have to go through the security check twice, which increases the waiting time for both you and other travellers. The security inspector must detect on an X-ray that you have electronics in the bag, they must look for you and ask you to pick up the electronics, and then let it pass through the X-ray again.
The technology in the new security control in Terminal 5 at Stockholm Arlanda Airport is different from that in other security controls at Arlanda and Swedavia's other airports. It is this technology that allows travellers to keep liquids and electronics in their bag when going through security in Arlanda's Terminal 5. Liquids and electronics still have to be removed in other security controls.

Delayed or lost baggage
If your baggage has been delayed or not arrived, please contact your airline’s baggage service. That is, whoever handles their baggage at the airport.

No. The airline is legally responsible for transporting you and your baggage from point A to B. The airline has a contract with the ground handling company as its representative on baggage issues. Swedavia does not have access to the airlines’ information about passengers or baggage.
